The Royal Academy has held its Summer Exhibition since 1769. Owing to the open nature of the exhibitions, it’s generally regarded as a snapshot of art of the time as well as being a chance to see the avant-garde of the art world. Certainly, the exhibition has a substantial number of new and young artists displaying their work. In its seminal year, 136 different pieces were on show. These days, the number is closer to 1,000. Featuring a diverse display of Kahn’s models, sketches, photos and original drawing, the exhibition gives an insight to why Kahn is considered a master of twentieth century architecture. Soon to arrive at the Royal Academy is the installation entitled “The Lost Album”, an exhibition of over four hundred original photographs taken by the late Dennis Hopper. This is the first time such a large collection of Hopper’s work has been shown in the UK. All of the photographs were taken between 1961 and 1967 and were personally selected by Hopper for his first major exhibition at the Fort Worth Art Centre, Texas, in 1970.
